Part 1 Realize Who you have to be

If you can close your eyes for a second and visualize throughout your life, who have you admired the most; some might say their parents, a teacher, friend, pastor, athletes or celebrities. What do all these people have in common; well I would say they all were people that you personally looked up to by the way they lived their lives, what you were able to learn from them or how they made you feel when they were in your presence. I would suggest the people who make the biggest impact are those that add value to our lives. My belief is that much like who we admire; peoples motivation to spend their money, time and efforts are due to the idea that their actions will add value to their lives. So what does our natural human desire to attain value have to do with Network Marketing? Well I would suggest everything.

As Network Marketers I believe our goal is to add value to those that we either sponsor or sell our products to; the best way I have found to do this is by making yourself a leader. When we think of leaders they tend to be people that have direction, a plan, are in control, make mistakes but learn from them, have focus, exude confidence and are people that add value to those that follow them. If you want to position yourself as someone who sponsors many people, you have to make yourself a leader who has the plan to help build the businesses of those associated with you. I have personally seen this power at work when attending a conference where a leader who was successful in another business, marketed the same product I had but by having the platform to do so, people were signing up in droves because they believed if they followed him that would lead to their success. People gravitate to leaders with answers, and when someone sees that you have a way to help improve their business they will naturally listen. So how do you make yourself a leader, when you’ve never been in that position before? Well as the saying goes “Knowledge is Power.”

Educating yourself on information that has anything to do with leadership, marketing, promotion, selling, advertising or directly related to building a business gives you knowledge that people will go to you for. To give you an example of why education is so crucial to leadership, many of the top Network marketers have been known to have a level of knowledge equivalent to a PhD degree. I know some of you are still saying to yourselves, “but I’m not naturally a leader” or “leaders are born not trained” and “even if I knew everything about Network Marketing who would listen to me”: well as I wrote earlier being a leader has more to do with who you have to be not what you have to do. Before people see your business opportunity they see you, if you can’t convince anyone that you’re the one worth following then the best pitch or presentation you give will fall on deaf ears. While you might see the business as a once in a lifetime opportunity, many will see it as another problem not the solution to their lack of finances. When you can sell yourself first, then your opportunity second you increase the chances of building your business.
